  • Steve Carella

    Male

    A central figure in Ed McBain’s (pseudonym for Evan Hunter) books about the 87th police district in Isola is Stephen ‘Steve’ Carella. He is of Italian extraction, and in one of the early books he marries the beautiful and deaf-mute Theodora ‘Teddy’ Franklin, with whom he has twin sons. Detective Carella is tall, dark and muscular without being athletic; he gives an impression of strength and energy.

  • Ewa Moreno

    Female

    She is pretty, dark and intelligent, and also a police detective in author Håkan Nesser’s fictive town Maardam. She does, however, work on her own sometimes. Ewa Moreno has a platonic crush on her married colleague Münster, but first has relationships with the currency dealer Claes Bradher and later with her neighbour Mikael Bau. She appreciates well-prepared food and a glass of wine, and having a shower – for a long time.

  • Kurt Wallander

    Male

    Wallander lives and works in Ystad, southern Sweden. But it does not prevent him from leading investigations of especially difficult cases, chasing serial killers and international criminals. Through Henning Mankell’s books as well as adaptations for film and television, he has become a popular figure and one of Sweden’s best-known fictional characters worldwide.

  • Perry Mason

    Male

    Perry Mason – known from the books by Erle Stanley Gardner – is probably the most famous defence lawyer of our time. He is obsessed with his job, but little is known about his private life, we do not even know what he looks like. He is unmarried, lives in an apartment and is an excellent driver. When he takes on a case, he does a great deal of criminal investigation of his own.
