He is a reflecting gentleman with an everyday appearance who is unlucky in his relationships: his first wife leaves him, his second wife dies in the books by Håkan Nesser. When alone, Barbarotti has long conversations with God.

She is young and beautiful and she is a skilful police officer. When Lise Delorme is sent to work in Algonquin Bay in Ontario in Canada, it is not only to work on cases of violent crime, but also – in secret – to investigate a suspected network of bribery in the local police force. He was born into a family of affluent bankers who disown him on account of his choice of profession: he has been a rural sheriff for three years, and then a private detective in New York. After the death of his wife, things went downhill for him, but author Peter Spiegelman lets (the approximately 180 cm tall) John March sober up, start drinking orange juice and go out running, as well as manage to acquire strong self-discipline and a new girlfriend, Jane Lu.

Vincent Ruiz

The colour of his face shows that he drinks too much. Otherwise he is big and strong – not least as regards language – with a broken nose. Vincent Ruiz has a history of 43 years as a police officer in London, three marriages and just as many divorces. He does, however, have good contact with his ex-wives as well as his children. And even though he is now retired, he still catches villains in Michael Robotham’s novels.
