He admits that this affects his family life, and thus always has a bad conscience, according to his creator John Verdon.

While on sick leave he solved a double murder, which aroused such attention that he was recruited to an anti-terrorist task force. There, he met Kate Mayfield, a beautiful lady who later becomes not only an FBI agent but also John Corey’s wife. Together, they combat terrorists and spies in novels by Nelson DeMille.

Thursday Next
Female
She is called Thursday Next, and is an agent for a state organisation in an absurd, parallel world (i.e. parallel to our own) that is imbued with literary features. She is newly married – we get to know that her husband Landen Parke-Laine drowned when he was three years old – and has a son Friday. Her mother is called Wednesday. Jasper Fforde has written a suite of very different fantasy crime novels about Thursday Next and her world.

Linda Martinez
Female
Her mother is English, her father from Jamaica and she (Linda Martinez) is a police officer in Stockholm. She makes a quick career, and becomes the head of the investigative section. She was introduced in a TV series by Jan Guillou and Leif G.W. Persson in the 1990s, and has since then played a more or less large role in several of Persson’s books. She doesn’t like to talk about her private life, but she can be very blunt and direct, and likes strong beer.
