Harriet Vane
Female
At the age of 29, crime writer Harriet Vane stands trial accused of having poisoned her lover. She is shown to be innocent by Lord Peter Wimsey, who falls in love with her and then in some of Dorothy L. Sayers’ novels courts the independent Vane. She participates in his investigations, but is not interested in a more intimate relationship with him. Eventually, however, she gives in, they get married and have three sons.

Morten Dahl-Nielsen

He can’t be described as handsome, Chief Inspector Morten Dahl-Nielsen in Lund: a hunchbacked, somewhat overweight middle-aged man with hair that is thinning out more and more. And nor does he like his job, even though he is a clever and appreciated police detective. Contrary to many other female police officers in crime fiction Barbara Havers is not a good-looking woman. Her creator, Elizabeth George, claims she made her deliberately unattractive and unkempt. Havers has cooperation issues and she is moody, stubborn and temperamental. Yet she has a functional working relationship with her complete opposite, the well bred, neatly turned out Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley.

Katrin Lindwall

She is a central figure in three novels by K. Arne Blom about police unit EEV2229. The books were written in 1979-81, but they are set in a corrupt society in 1999. Detective Inspector Katrin Lindwall, 41 years old, has a narrow face with full lips and broad shoulders and has a page haircut. She is married to a politician, Ored, and has a son, Evert. She also suffers from breast cancer.
