Lee and Frederic Dannay who used the name of their detective as their pseudonym. The authors and the character are among the greatest names in crime fiction worldwide.

Cooper grew up in Derbyshire and many of his investigations take place in the Peak District. He usually works alongside his superior officer, Diane Fry.
