The Catholic priest Father Brown (he has no first name) is active in England. He has a round, non-descript face and an umbrella which he is always losing; in addition, he usually carries a paper-wrapped package which he finds difficult to keep in order. But he is also one of the best amateur detectives in fiction, the main character in five classic collections of short stories (but no novel) by G.K. Chesterton.

The well-built Will Robie has sharp facial features, dark hair and a lot of scars on his torso and arms. Author Pierre Lemaitre doesn’t make life easy for his middle-aged detective chief inspector, Camille Verhœven, in Paris. His pregnant wife is tortured to death in the first book: in the fourth book, his girlfriend Anne Forestier is almost killed in connection with a robbery. The short and entirely bald police officer, who isn’t always particularly sympathetic, solves the cases; then he resigns.

A tragic childhood turned 27-year-old ‘Zack’ Herry into a split personality. When he was six years old, his mother was murdered. Now, in the daytime, he is an ambitious police detective in Stockholm, but at night he lives a crazy life with drugs and booze in illegal clubs. He is described as handsome, with blond hair, in good physical condition and the main character in the Hercules series by Mons Kallentoft, Markus Lutteman and Anna Karolina.
