She was born in Jordan, which her skin hints at: she always seems to have a suntan, according to author Ingar Johnsrud. But Kafa Iqbal works for the Norwegian security service as an expert on religious terrorists when she is introduced to the readers – however, she soon switches to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Oslo Police. She is beautiful, slim, with dark, shoulder-length hair with a parting in the middle. She is also good at karate – and single.

She is pretty, dark and intelligent, and also a police detective in author Håkan Nesser’s fictive town Maardam. She does, however, work on her own sometimes. Ewa Moreno has a platonic crush on her married colleague Münster, but first has relationships with the currency dealer Claes Bradher and later with her neighbour Mikael Bau. Kollberg has two major interests in life: food and his family; his 14-year younger wife, Gun – with whom he often enjoys making love – and their two children.
