Gordianus
Female
He is called Gordianus the Finder, and is a private investigator in ancient Rome in the days of Julius Caesar. ‘Lawyers’ and orators like Cicero are some of the people who use his services in historical crime novels by Steven Saylor. Gordianus’ wife is the Egyptian Bethesda, previously his concubine whom he had bought as a slave. He lives in Rome until he inherits a farm in Etruria, but later moves back to the city.

She once gained an Olympic medal in rowing and later became a Secret Service agent, but lost her job when she had been careless with the protection of a presidential candidate who was murdered. Perry Mason – known from the books by Erle Stanley Gardner – is probably the most famous defence lawyer of our time. He is obsessed with his job, but little is known about his private life, we do not even know what he looks like. He is unmarried, lives in an apartment and is an excellent driver. When he takes on a case, he does a great deal of criminal investigation of his own.

Gavin Troy

Troy is a detective in the fictive English county of Midsomer, and Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby’s right hand. In Caroline Graham’s novel, Tory is a clever and intelligent police officer, but his prejudices – he is, for example, a homophobe – and rather abrupt manner speak against him. In the TV series <i>Midsomer Murders</i>, his personality has been ‘corrected’ and he is decidedly more sympathetic, and is still a skilled investigator.
