Tom Reynolds
Male
A friendly, calm and humorous police detective in Dublin, who leads the investigations into brutal murders in books by Jo Spain. He is between 40 and 50 years old, with a slightly crooked nose and black hair going grey, and he is happily married to Louise: they have a daughter together, Maria, who is not entirely without problems. Tom Reynolds’ personality is based on the author’s husband, Martin, who is a journalist, however, not a police officer.
-
Sam Kovac
Male
Tough, middle-aged police officer in Minneapolis, who doesn’t like following rules and regulations, but is still a competent policeman, claims author Tami Hoag. He is especially successful when he gets the younger, quick-thinking Nikki Liska as a colleague, and when they are forced to work each on their own, they both feel dissatisfied. Sam Kovac has two marriages behind him, and lives so totally for his work, that he doesn’t even clean his flat…
-
Logan McRae
Male
Author Stuart MacBride paints a picture of a dark and gloomy Aberdeen, where police detective Logan McRae investigates cases which include a lot of violence – sometimes against children. He, himself, has a background which is not entirely without blemishes, and sometimes he is wounded on duty or is transferred after breaking various rules. He is tired, often unshaven and a bit shabby-looking, but nevertheless has a permanent, if somewhat shaky, relationship with Samantha.

Sean King
Male
Private detective, who like his colleague Michelle Maxwell was dismissed from the Secret Service after failure as a bodyguard. He is a middle-aged man, with dark greying hair, tall and handsome, explains David Baldacci. Sean King has an easy-going relationship with former colleague Joan Dillinger, but he feels all the more attracted to his working partner Maxwell even though they are in many ways each other’s opposites.
