He is obsessed with his job, but little is known about his private life, we do not even know what he looks like. He is unmarried, lives in an apartment and is an excellent driver. When he takes on a case, he does a great deal of criminal investigation of his own.

Detective Diane Fry, who features in a string of novels by Stephen Booth, is a competent investigator, but under the surface she is an insecure and vulnerable woman. They neither can or want to admit that they are in love.

But Münster’s wife is called Synn, and they live in a happy marriage with two children – which doesn’t prevent him from silently admiring other women. He plays badminton for the exercise, and he succeeds his boss Van Veeteren when the latter leaves the police force.
