Gunnar Mellberg
Male
A detective inspector, later chief inspector, in Lund, Sweden. He is tall, well-built, smokes a pipe and is interested in gardening. With his wife, he has four children. K. Arne Blom has written five novels (and a book for people with reading impediments) about Gunnar Mellberg. In the first novels, he has a minor yet important role, in the final one it is revealed that he is the son of one of Blom’s main characters, the security agent Loman.

Fleming Stone

He is most happy in his well-stocked library – that is where private detective Fleming Stone retires to when he ponders over a difficult case in the novels by Carolyn Wells. And there are a lot – more than 60. And he looks very ‘learned’ too, has an extremely good general education and is also silent, correct and friendly with a ‘sympathetic’ face. It is usually the police who come to him and ask for help.

He is a former sea captain, now more than 80 years old, and in need of a walking stick as well as a hearing aid in his daily life. But there is nothing wrong with his memory and deductive reasoning. The books about Hunter and Perez gave author Ann Cleeves her breakthrough – despite the tragic end to the love story.
