    Male

    Wallander lives and works in Ystad, southern Sweden. But it does not prevent him from leading investigations of especially difficult cases, chasing serial killers and international criminals. Through Henning Mankell’s books as well as adaptations for film and television, he has become a popular figure and one of Sweden’s best-known fictional characters worldwide.

  • Tommy (Thomas) Lynley

    Male

    Thomas Lynley is a Scotland Yard detective inspector. He is also the eighth Earl of Asherton, he is rich, well educated and good looking. Not everybody appreciates his aristocratic background, including his sergeant, Barbara Havers, which does not prevent the two from making a formidable team. According to the author, Elizabeth George, they respect each other’s idiosyncrasies. Lynley features in all Elizabeth Georges adult novels.

  • Rina Lazarus

    Female

    26 years old, the orthodox Jewess Rina Lazarus is a widow and the single parent of two small boys. In connection with a murder case, she gets to know police officer Peter Decker, and after he has changed religion, she marries him and they have a daughter. Author Faye Kellerman also lets them solve a series of criminal cases, where they take turns at playing the main role, and sometimes share it.

  • Adam Dalgliesh

    Male

    Adam Dalgliesh is a successful, much respected detective inspector and poet that features in novels by P.D. James. In her first book about him, she spelt his name Dalgleish, which has caused some confusion. He is a typical soft-spoken, straightforward, pragmatic English gentleman who operates more like a classic private detective than a Scotland Yard DI. He conducts himself with ease in all kinds of geographical and social settings.
