    Male

    Angela ”Angie” Gennaro is a small, dark, good looking private detective that features in novels by Dennis Lehane. She is working alongside her childhood friend Patrick Kenzie. She is a devout Catholic and therefore reluctant to leave her alcoholic, abusive husband. Kenzie and Gennaro solve crime in a string of hardboiled detective novels set in Boston.

  • Dave Gurney

    Male

    A well-built police detective in New York who commands respect, renowned for having caught several serial murderers, who retires already when he is about 50 years old. He moves to the countryside with his wife Madeleine and their son, but can’t resist from privately investigating murders. He admits that this affects his family life, and thus always has a bad conscience, according to his creator John Verdon.

  • Rina Lazarus

    Female

    26 years old, the orthodox Jewess Rina Lazarus is a widow and the single parent of two small boys. In connection with a murder case, she gets to know police officer Peter Decker, and after he has changed religion, she marries him and they have a daughter. Author Faye Kellerman also lets them solve a series of criminal cases, where they take turns at playing the main role, and sometimes share it.

    He is a detective inspector in Kentish Town just outside London, where he gets to experience everything from a decomposing female corpse in a bathtub to gang-shootings. John Bright is small of stature, dark, likes to wear a shoddy leather jacket, and (according to author Maureen O’Brien) looks more like a criminal than a police officer. He can be very irritable, doesn’t like travelling and has a patient girlfriend called Jude.
