Adam Fawley

Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) in Oxford and the main character in a suite of novels by the pseudonym Cara Hunter. The kind and compassionate Adam Fawley is in his early 40s and a little more than 180 cm tall, dark-haired, and moreover very attractive. He solves his cases with the help of an experienced team of detectives. His wife is the lawyer Alex, and the couple are grieving their only child, their son Jake, who died at the age of ten.

Gereon Rath

A police detective and war veteran in Köln, who after a fatal mistake in his work in 1929 is transferred to Berlin. According to author Volker Kutscher, Gereon Rath is between 30 and 40 years old, slim, skilled, stubborn and a morphine addict on account of traumatic war experiences. In Berlin he meets police stenographer Charlotte ‘Charly’ Ritter; they start a relationship, get married and build a family.

Benny Griessel

He is a middle-aged detective with the Cape Town police, is of average height with greying untidy hair, a rugged face and a Slavic appearance. Benny Griessel does, however, have problems. Sayers. Witty and erudite, he solves crime with the help of logic, his butler, Bunter, and his friend (later brother-in-law) Inspector Charles Parker.
