Lindell is a detective inspector in Uppsala, Sweden, and the protagonist in a series of much acclaimed novels by Kjell Eriksson. In the first book she has a relationship with a farmer, Edward Risberg. Following their reluctant separation, Lindell has a somewhat chaotic private life at the same time as she is highly efficient, creative and popular at work.

Hanne Wilhelmsen

Hanne Wilhemsen comes from a family of academics, and her father is a professor. She surprises and annoys her family by becoming a police officer. Wilhelmsen is a lesbian, she is good looking and she rides a pink Harley Davidson until she is shot and ends up in a wheelchair. Anne Holt has written a string of internationally acclaimed novels about Wilhelmsen’s professional and private life.

Cordelia Gray

A young private detective in only two novels by P.D. James; many readers have complained that there weren’t any more. She grew up with her foster parents – her mother died an hour after the birth of her daughter – and as an adult became the secretary to the private detective Bernie G. Pryde.
