His father, who was also a police officer, was killed on duty. As a pensioner, Michael McLoughlin is reluctantly involved in some crime cases in novels by Julie Parsons.

Dennis Lehane has written a string of much acclaimed hardboiled, urban, violent police novels about the pair.

Mervyn Bunter

He is Lord Peter Wimsey’s patient and always correct butler in the classic detective stories by Dorothy L. Sayers, and he also carries out with honour some scouting missions. He only loses his temper when the housekeeper washes the dusty, carefully stored bottles of port wine.
