The British Franciscan monk from Baskerville is the main character in just one novel – on the other hand, it is the classic <i>The Name of the Rose</i> by Umberto Eco. It is not just the name Baskerville which makes one think of Sherlock Holmes: William’s own ‘Watson’, Adso, describes him as tall, thin, strong, supple, with a crooked nose and sharp eyes, and aged around fifty. Ewert Grens
Male
Middle-aged detective chief inspector in Stockholm, ordinary-looking, with thinning hair and a wrinkled face. He suffers from a severe trauma: his wife Anni suffered severe brain damage in an accident that he caused. Now Ewert Grens visits her every day in the care home. His only consolation is the songs sung by Siw Malmkvist, and he is always listening to them in the novels by Anders Roslund – the early novels were written together with Börge Hellström.

Milo Sturgis
Male
Sturgis is a well-built, rather plump detective with the Los Angeles Police. And he is openly homosexual too – which causes him some problems – and co-habits with Richard ‘Rick’ Silverman, a doctor and orthodox Jew. Sturgis has an M.A. in Literature, loves fruit and is a secondary character in Jonathan Kellerman’s books about psychologist Alex Delaware. He does, however, have the main role in some of them.

Agent 007 James Bond is exceptionally famous for being a secret agent. He works for the British Secret Service and is sent on missions all over the world. He has some expensive habits and is a womanizer, but his background is obscure. He was created by Ian Fleming, but several other authors have included him in their work; among them are Kingsley Amis, Jefferey Deaver and John Gardner.
