Peter Temple was born in South Africa, but left the country in 1980, deeply sickened by the white regime’s apartheid policy. He finally settled down in Australia, where he became an esteemed and prize-winning writer of detective stories. The Temple family were English and went to South Africa to spread the message of the Anglican church. Peter grew up in an English-speaking home, but spoke Afrikaans too. There was Dutch blood on his mother’s side.
