The American psychologist C. (Charles) Daly King had a remarkable career as an author. He wrote several non-fiction books about psychology as well as a handful of crime novels which aroused greater attention in other countries – primarily Great Britain – than in his home country. Two of them have never even been published in the USA. King gained most attention with his solitary collection of short stories, The Curious Mr. Tarrant (1935), which has been described by experts such as Ellery Queen and Edward D. Hoch as one of the best detective stories about ‘impossible crimes’ ever written.
