An American author, journalist and actor, born in Brooklyn, New York. Not much is known about his private life and early years, but it has been discovered that Thomas W. Hanshew already as a 16-year-old had a job in a theatre company where he was given small supporting roles. Later he even got some bigger roles, though without making much of an impression. When he was about 20, he started writing for various newspapers and cheap pulp magazines using a number of more or less imaginative pseudonyms: Dashing Charley, Old Cap Collier, H.O. Cooke, Old Cap Darrell, R.T. Emmett and "A.U.S. Detective" are known.
