Charlotte Armstrong was an American author born in Vulcan, Michigan. She attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and Barnard College, New York, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1925. She then worked at the New York Times advertising department, as a fashion reporter and as a secretary. She married her husband Jack Lewi in 1928. They had a daughter and two sons together. Armstrong became a housewife and began to write in her spare time. In 1947, the family moved temporarily to California for the shooting of her novel The Unsuspected (1946). They liked it there and settled down permanently in Glendale. Charlotte Armstrong died at a Glendale hospital.
